Burn the Terror Bill! Solidarity with the Archipelago

Duration: 2:19
Audio language: Portuguese
Subtitles: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese

Synopsis: In the archipelago occupied by the Philippine state, a new anti-terrorism law has been approved in 2020 that limits freedom of expression, increases surveillance of the population, allows arrests without warrant and threatens those who oppose the state with life imprisonment, without the right to parole. The definition of “terrorism” is vague on purpose, to fit any enemy of the state and divide people between “good” and “bad”. When threatened by popular uprisings, the state uses the figure of the “terrorist” to isolate and criminalize people and movements seeking radical changes beyond what the state considers acceptable. Anarchists, antifascists, workers’ organizations, the fight against police violence or against colonial powers have been the target of this tactic. Showing solidarity with people criminalized for fighting is part of any struggle for a more just and equal world. Out with Duterte! Down with the states, the real terrorists!
