South Korea in the State of Micro-Civil Wars

This presentation is an interview (in the sense of exchange of views ) between Korea and North America (Quebec). We exchange our views on the society and the world under siege by Covid-19 as well as the government’s attempt to control people’s movements and behavior.

The people of South Korea have lived in the state of civil war since the Korean War. The fact that we have lived under the constant state of exception has in a way prepared the people to respond to the pandemic not just by cooperating with the current health regime but also refusing the regime. These manifestations of cooperation and refusal are quite different from those in North America or Europe. So by exchanging our views, we would like to search ways to build and expand our foundations of struggle within and beyond borders under and beyond the era of pandemic.
