I will offer some historical background for social movements in NYC from 2011- present, in which the taking and holding of space was a tactic. I’ll discuss the organization and repression of Occupy Wall Street, Abolition Square (circa 2016), and put recent pandemic era occupations into context. I will use screen share from my zoom account, and encourage participation from those involved in Abolition Park, as well as the broader uprising taking place.
