This workshop will provide its participants with practical ways to support incarcerated community members in NYC and the NYS prison system. Participants will learn how to locate, communicate, and provide material support to community members inside. We will discuss participatory defense strategies such as open letters, building solidarity through pack the courts, tips when engaging with media, the importance of non-legal advocates for Queer, Trans, & Two-Spirit (QT2S) people, gathering letters of support before sentencing, and raising bail funds and bail resources in NYC. We will also share how to support a loved one throughout their sentence; including things we’ve done to get community members out of solitary confinement.
