Presenters: No More 24!

No More 24! presents a panel between caregivers to discuss why care workers have historically been devalued in our society, and how the No More 24 movement to end the 24-hour workday is an important struggle for the liberation of women and working people.

This event comes on the heels of an 8-day hunger strike that home care workers held at City Hall, where they demanded that Speaker Julie Menin end the 24-hour workday, a powerful protest built upon years of organizing. In response, the United Nations issued an allegation letter denouncing the 24-hour workday as a form of torture and cruelty, and raised concerns about the undervaluing of care work done primarily by women inside and outside the home, and its repercussions for those in need of care.

The No More 24 Campaign brings together working people of all backgrounds to fight to end the 24-hour workday, an extreme illustration of the devaluation of care work. Only in New York City does the government promote and fund the 24-hour workday in home care, destroying the health and families of many women, and depriving elderly and disabled individuals the full care that they need.
