For the tenant union, no borders means no police, and to build a world without police we need a culture of supportive and restorative justice in our homes, blocks and neighborhoods. This workshop would be a space for us, as tenants, to think critically about how the punitive culture we are raised in affects our lives. We want to ask ourselves: how do we recognize when we are looking to punitive structures, and then change course? In the tenant union we have been building out our own analysis of how tenants can intervene against the police state.

From the tenant union’s perspective, we show material solidarity with our neighbors in Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Mexico and across the world through fighting for another world where we live. In the belly of the beast, tenants of Brooklyn have been working tirelessly to gain more control over their housing. We want to foster a collective learning experience about how and why we build up an abolitionist tenant movement, a world without police in our homes.
