Mark Bray (in-person) and Tomas Rothaus (remotely) will jointly discuss the experiences of previous generations of anarchists in the fight against deportations, fascist movements, and capitalist globalization– what is relevant to today, what lessons we can pull from the mistakes, failures, and successes of the past, how the terrain and dynamics have shifted for anarchists and antifascists, and what this means in practice. The discussion will use the book “Another War Is Possible,” by Tomas Rothaus to touch upon the activities of the anti-authoritarian “Anti-Deportation Collective” in France and the anti-globalization movement of the 2000s as references for anarchist modes of organization and intervention, before moving on to how (if at all) these are relevant to today’s conflicts. Conversation is also likely to touch on the global effect of reactionary shifts in the USA– and how MAGA politics are echoed in South America, more concretely Argentina, where Tomas is located.
