The Bronx Anarchist Fair, Saturday April 4, 2009
We kick off the week, Saturday, April 4 with The Bronx Anarchist Fair.
A grass-roots community celebration, put on by anarchists who live, play and organize in the Bronx. Come spend the day in beautiful Brook Park participating in workshops on Squatting History, Hip-Hop and resistance or moving Beyond a Police State and much more. NYC Anarchist Art Festival, April 9-11, 2009
Thursday, April 9 begins three evenings of art and performance during the NYC Anarchist Art Festival at The Living Theatre.
Thursday April 9 and Friday April 10 will host outdoor performances, video art, documentaries, and performances by Reverend Billy, Judith Malina and Holy!Holy!Holy!
Saturday, April 11 you will find all this plus the official NYC Anarchist Book Fair after-party. Come support The Book Fair and The Living Theatre during this benefit party. NYC Anarchist Film Festival, Friday April 10, 2009
Friday, April 10, come out to the The Third Annual NYC Anarchist Film Festival in Honor of Brad Will. “From Gaza to Greece, The Burning Continues.”
Over ten hours of films, in three different venues, all across Manhattan. A forum for diverse, radical films on issues that currently face our ever brutal but increasingly small planet of the apes. Films, music and much more.
Independent Music Festival, Saturday April 11, 2009
Come to Bushwick and dance the night and the early morning away. Surreal Estate will be home to the first-ever after-book fair music event.
Surreal Estate is a collective living space, art gallery, music and events venue housed in two adjacent buildings in Bushwick. The household is cooperatively run by consensus, and residents aim for sustainability and social accountability. They offer many kinds of events open to the community: Bushwick Food Not Bombs, benefit shows for various organizations, Radical Pot Luck and speaker series, history and book clubs, Spanish classes and bilingual events, a reading library, and by-donation yoga classes and skillshares. Surreal Estate hopes to produce a dynamic and creative forum that embraces experimentation in many forms while maintaining a down-to-earth, friendly, welcoming environment.

Reading: Karl Kersplebedeb The Red Army Faction
Please join Kersplebedeb for a release party and a discussion of The Red Army Faction: Projectiles for the People, the first English language collection of Red Army Faction writings, manifestos, and communiques. The Red Army Faction were some of the most (in)famous urban guerillas to come out of the ’60s revolt in Europe. For the first time ever, their writings, manifestos, and communiques have been translated into English, accompanied by introductory texts charting the successes and failures of the RAF, and the broader revolutionary left of which it was a part. Publisher and research assistant Karl Kersplebedeb will be on hand with copies of The Red Army Faction, A Documentary History, Volume 1: Projectiles for the People.

Presentation: Illustrating Resistance: Art and Activism
With Molly J. Fair, Kevin Caplicki, Kevin Pyle, Erik Ruin, Seth Tobocman and Susan Willmarth
Come out for a discussion about art, activism, and creating visual tools for social movements. Seth Tobocman will present drawings from his latest book, Disaster and Resistance. Kevin Pyle and Susan Willmarth will discuss their contributions to The Real Cost of Prisons Comix. Erik Ruin and Kevin Caplicki will discuss Voices from Outside: Artists Against the Prison Industrial Complex, a portfolio created by Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative.

Reading: Jen Angel Becoming the Media
Co-founder of the award-winning-but-defunct magazine Clamor (1996-2006), Jen Angel reads from Becoming the Media: A Critical History of Clamor Magazine and discusses the role of independent media in social movements. Clamor was a movement magazine published from 1999-2000. Join Jen Angel and other special guests to talk about Clamor’s history, the role of independent media in social movements, and building institutions on the left. Angel is a founding board member of Allied Media Projects.

Discussion: Victoria Law Resistance Behind Bars
With Lynne Stewart, Ashanti Alston and Matt Meyer
Join us for an evening of discussion and readings about incarceration and resistance. Ashanti Alston (former BLA member and Prisoner of War, current co-chair of the Jericho Movement) will read from his upcoming memoir. Victoria Law (author, Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women) will talk about issues facing incarcerated women and their resistance and individual organizing; Matt Meyer (editor, Let Freedom Ring: A Collection of Documents from the Movement to Free Political Prisoners) and Lynne Stewart (attorney and contributor to Let Freedom Ring) will discuss the movement to free political prisoners in the U.S.
